Mar. 26--Firefighters on Friday rescued a Moorpark man after he climbed into a cave near Simi Valley and didn't have the strength to get out, officials said.
The man, in his 20s, was stuck in the cave in the Santa Susana Knolls area after he and three other Moorpark men in their 20s climbed in through a small entrance about 2 a.m. Friday, said Capt. Ken Bates of the Ventura County Fire Department. The man's three friends were able to climb out, Bates said.

A huge fire broke out at a chemical warehouse Tuesday in southeastern Louisiana, rocketing 55-gallon drums into the sky, forcing the evacuation of about 200 people and pulling in about 100 firefighters, authorities said.
An explosion inside the Coco Resources warehouse triggered the fire about 2 p.m., and two or three other buildings nearby in the industrial section also caught fire, State Fire Marshal Butch Browning said.

Mar. 30--The St. Louis Water Division is investigating why two fire hydrants were not working properly when firefighters tried to use them to battle a riverboat blaze on March 21.
The Lt. Robert E. Lee was moored in the Mississippi River at Beelman River Terminals, at the foot of North Market Street, when the fire broke out about 3 p.m.
Firefighters at the scene said they were delayed because two hydrants were not functioning properly.
